Continuous improvement evolution in Salem Tube: TxPS the key to success
In line with our corporate vision and the demanding TxPS model implemented in the TUBACEX Group three years ago, Salem Tube has been progressing steadily from the first TxPS tools implemented, to mastering the B (basics) level in 2016.
Salem Tube will implement all methodologies, tools and changes necessary to finalize this year, as a TxPS Lean Level 1 company. One step further towards operational excellence.
Combined with an industrial plan designed to strengthen Salem Tube’s diversification and new product development strategy, the TUBACEX plant in Greenville, Pennsylvania is evolving to a highly flexible and reliable seamless stainless and nickel alloy precision tubing powerhouse in the USA. Salem Tube is now capable of exceeding the highest customer expectations with the shortest lead times in the industry, thanks to a highly specialized, experienced and motivated workforce.
The focus of this year’s plan is on transforming Maintenance by the extensive use of preventive and proactive action that will help us boost the machine availability of critical equipment, bringing the largest amount of radical improvement projects to a successful and timely closure, in the Gradual Improvement area by mastering the 5S.
5S is an international standard method to improve housekeeping, safety and effectiveness in workplaces by getting rid of unnecessary items, assigning a home for all necessary items, keeping both the workplace, equipment, and machines free of deteriorated elements. The secondary efforts of 5S are to development a sustainable model by developing systematic ways to continue improving and maintaining at a housekeeping level. This directly ties into the overall concept of TxPS by completing one piece of the pie regarding housekeeping and operator level maintenance.
