Xabier Sagredo Ormaza has more than 25 years of executive experience in the financial, energy and sustainability sectors. Since 2014, he has been Executive Chairman of the Bilbao Bizkaia Kutxa Banking Foundation (BBK), where he has led a profound transformation based on a model of sustainable competitiveness, fostering innovation, technology and talent, and consolidating BBK as the second Spanish entity with the greatest potential for business investment and the leading one in the Basque Country. Under his leadership, the foundation has strengthened its role as the controlling shareholder of Kutxabank and has ensured the sustainability of its social work through an active corporate investment policy.
He is an independent director and Chairman of the Audit and Risk Supervision Committee of Iberdrola, S.A., and serves as a trustee of institutions such as the Biocruces Health Research Institute, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and the Guggenheim Museum Foundation Bilbao. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Basque Institute of Competitiveness (Orkestra) and of the Governing Council of the University of Deusto, and collaborates as a visiting professor with various business schools and universities.
A graduate in Economics and Business Administration with a specialization in finance and postgraduate studies in various fields, including certified training in technological risks, he has been recognized with numerous awards for his leadership and career, among them European CEO, CEO of the Year at the Capital Awards and Basque Economist of the Year by the Basque College of Economists.
