Tubacex Taylor Accesorios (TTA), a Tubacex Group production plant located in Artziniega (Araba) and specialised in the manufacture of tubular accessories (fittings), has received the second award granted by Asepeyo in the category for the best preventive practice for especially sensitive workers.

The recognition highlights a comprehensive initiative designed to address one of the plant’s most pressing challenges: combining safety, health, wellbeing and generational renewal in an industrial environment with a particularly senior and highly male-dominated workforce.

The initiative, presented under the title “At Tubacex Taylor Accesorios, building a preventive culture and a gender perspective: for the present we need and a legacy with a future”, was based on a clear diagnosis. Of the plant’s 28 employees, 15 are over the age of 55 and 3 are over 61, with an average of 25 years of service at the company. This demographic profile is combined with exposure to musculoskeletal risks, as well as other risks inherent to the industrial activity of a capital goods manufacturer.

TTA’s internal analysis also identified low perception of certain risks and highlighted room for improvement in participation, supervision, employee care and social support. In response, the company structured its action around two strategic goals: strengthening safety culture and preventive commitment and ensuring successful generational renewal by protecting the health and wellbeing of senior employees while enabling them to continue contributing their knowledge and experience in a safe, healthy and inclusive environment.

To achieve this, the plant deployed a comprehensive action plan focused on people, health and wellbeing. Measures included the rollout of direct communication channels such as a Health Mailbox, a dedicated health and safety section on the Employee Portal and the company’s mobile app, as well as the reinforcement of the Tubacex Production System, which integrates production, safety and health issues into daily shift meetings.

The initiative also incorporated a gender perspective and an equality-driven approach, particularly relevant in a workforce that is 90% male. In this context, TTA promoted actions together with Gizonduz, the Basque programme for engaging men in equality, through awareness and training sessions aimed at fostering a more respectful, cohesive and inclusive workplace.

Another key pillar of the plan was practical awareness-raising in prevention, with dedicated sessions designed to bring health and safety closer to employees in a more experiential, participative and less theoretical way. This was complemented by the development of safety videos shown at the plant for employees and visitors, reinforcing safe working habits through practical guidance.

The plan also placed special emphasis on protecting the senior workforce and promoting overall wellbeing. Measures included the implementation of Worfit, an exercise platform aimed at improving physical health, preventing injuries and supporting longer, healthier working lives; health campaigns focused on sleep and psychological wellbeing; Psicolan, an emotional support platform for managing psychosocial risks; and Solutia, a technology-based medical care service that facilitates access to consultations and health management.

Finally, the initiative explicitly addressed generational renewal through Lan Mentoring, a pilot programme promoted by Lanbide in collaboration with Innobasque to ensure that the experience and know-how accumulated by senior employees are transferred in a structured way to younger generations.

The value of the practice recognised by Asepeyo lies in this holistic approach. TTA has addressed prevention not as a set of isolated measures, but as a lever for cultural transformation, internal cohesion, care for senior employees and preparation for the plant’s future.

This recognition therefore provides external endorsement for a model of prevention that connects safety, health, equality, wellbeing and knowledge transfer, an approach that not only protects people, but also helps build a stronger future for the company
